Cocoa was first used by the Maya civilization in Central America. It began to be used in Europe in the 16th century and quickly became popular. Currently, cocoa is used for the main purpose of producing chocolate, which is a food with many health benefits.

Introduction

Cocoa is a tree of the Sterculiaceae family, originating from Central America. In Vietnam, cocoa is grown in the Central Highlands and some southern provinces.
The tree grows naturally up to 8-10m tall with large, oval-shaped leaves. In cultivation, the tree is adjusted to no more than 5-6m tall to make it easier to pick fruit.
Flowers are small, growing directly on large branches or on the tree body.
Fruit is 15-20cm long, 10-12cm wide. The outer skin is tough, yellow or red when ripe. Each fruit contains 20-40 egg-shaped seeds, covered by a white or light yellow layer with a sour taste.
