General introduction

In addition to N95 medical masks, medical protective clothing, antibacterial hand sanitizers, and nutritional supplements, which all boost resistance, many people have recently heard about COVID-19 face shields. With the desire to provide maximum protection for themselves and their families, face shields have garnered great interest and have been chosen by many consumers.

According to Dr. Nguyen Hoang Yen, Director of the Children and Maternity Center, face shields are transparent pieces of mica cut to shape or attached to cloth caps. They are then secured to the head using foam padding to create a bracelet, keeping the shield at a distance from the face. This design supports the nose, prevents moisture from breathing out, and prevents fogging of the shield.

Uses

The primary use of a face shield is to protect the wearer's eyes. In the medical field, doctors also use shields with plastic diaphragms to prevent patient secretions from splashing up during surgery or endotracheal intubation. More people are now using face shields to avoid droplet transmission caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the challenging conditions posed by the Delta variant.

As we all know, the Delta variant spreads through both airborne transmission and droplets. Therefore, in addition to wearing N95 medical masks, using a face shield provides extra safety by protecting the eye area from COVID-19 infection.

Materials

The face shield is made from the following materials:

• The shield is made of heat-resistant PE plastic, which is resistant to O2 and CO2 in high temperatures. Mechanical strength, tear and impact resistance, abrasion resistance, and stiffness are all important factors.
• The headband is made of HDPE plastic, which is exceptionally durable and resistant to natural corrosion, including water, wind, acid rain, and erosion from solutions such as strong acids, alkalis, salts, etc. HDPE is also resistant to UV radiation emitted by direct sunlight.
• Elastic bands connect the two ends of the plastic headband and are secured with plastic buttons.

• Dimensions: 320 mm x 220 mm (length x height). Both sides of the PET shield are coated with an anti-scratch covering.
• Thickness: 0.25mm.
• Headband material: sponge.
• Strap material: elastic, 400mm long, 20mm wide, and 1.0~1.5mm thick.

Quality standards

The face shield is free from protrusions, sharp edges, and other features that may cause discomfort during use. The materials used in the manufacturing process are chosen to avoid causing skin allergies.

The splash screen ensures a large field of view to prevent danger or inconvenience during work.

Instructions for use and maintenance

When using a face shield, please follow these guidelines:

• Only use a face shield in public or when in close proximity to sick people. It is best to limit social contacts, especially with strangers.
• Use the face shield for short periods of time. Prolonged use may impact long-term vision.
• To reduce the risk of infection, ensure that the face shield fits well on your face.
• Before and after using the face shield, wash your hands with soap or hand wash and clean the inside and outside of the shield with 90% alcohol. After wearing the shield, store it in a clean place, preferably in its own container.
• Do not touch the shield if it has not been cleaned and then touch your eyes, nose, mouth, or other people, as the risk of cross-infection is significantly higher.
