Zeven Provincien Boat Model

1. Introduction of Zeven Provincien

The trade competition between British and Dutch traders led to a Second Anglo-Dutch War in the early 1660s. The Netherlands undertook a major shipbuilding program and one of the largest ships launched at the time was the Zeven Provincien. Admiral Michiel Adrienszoon de Ruyter made the Zeven Provincien his flagship and it was randomly inspected by the British Fleet during the 4-day battle in June 1652.

The fraud of Zeven Provincien could not be carried out. As a result, HMS Royal Prince ran aground and was burned by the Netherlands on 12th. On 25th July, the Dutch and English fleets met at the North Foreland. Zeven Provincien was attacked and destroyed, and de Ruyter quickly withdrew. The next significant moment for the Zeven Provincien occurred during the Augsburg Coalition War, which saw an Anglo-Dutch alliance against France. On 29th May 1692, the ship was severely damaged in the Battle of La Hogue.
