1. Introduction

Timber Life classifies American oak based on prominent specifications, including varying lengths and widths. It is available in the following thicknesses:

  • 15mm
  • 20mm
  • 25mm
  • 30mm
  • 40mm
  • 45mm
  • 50mm

2. Classification of American hardwoods and American oak

American oak FAS, 1C, 2C, 3C are the standard grades of American oak (the grade of dried lumber is classified according to NHLA standards - National Hardwood Association of America).

FAS (First And Seconds) provides high-quality wood suitable for manufacturing high-end furniture, demanding interior applications, and furniture. It consists of a large percentage of good, long-cut wood sections.

Type 1C (No. 1 common type) and type 2C (No. 2 common type) are suitable for the kitchen cabinet industry, interior parts, and floor coverings.

Type 3C (popular grade 3) is used in flooring with a cheaper price and lower grade than grade 2. Grade 3 (3 Common) wood is commonly used for floor coverings or within the United States.

3. Benefits and applications

20mm thickness is commonly used for flooring.

15mm thickness is usually used for kitchen interiors.

40mm and 50mm thicknesses are suitable for door frames.

Larger and longer versions are suitable for use as panels, doors, etc.
