SAPELE WOOD FINGER JOINT

I - What is the Sapele wood finger joint?

The Sapele wood finger joint is a type of fiberboard that is produced by joining wood pallets using modern technology to form larger boards. The pallets are dried and treated with termite antiseptic. The Sapele wood finger joint is then sawed, smoothed, and joined with imported glue to ensure high stability and durability, minimizing wood deformation in Vietnam's climate conditions.

II - Classification of the Sapele wood finger joint

AB quality:

One side is nice, while the other side is fair. Side A is completely free of knots, heartwood, termites, black seams, etc. Side B allows small live knots with an average diameter of less than 1cm, with no heartwood. The humidity ranges from 8% to 14%. This type is suitable for producing wood products such as table surfaces, cabinet doors, kitchen tables, etc.

AC quality:

Side A is completely free of knots, heartwood, termites, black seams, etc. Side C usually has live knots, processed dead knots, black seams, and lower color quality compared to side A and side B. The humidity ranges from 8% to 14%. This type is used for furniture, sheathing boards for floors or walls, etc. (only requiring one nice side).

BC quality:

Side B allows small live knots with an average diameter of less than 1cm, with no heartwood. Side C usually has live knots, processed dead knots, black seams, and lower color quality compared to side A and side B. The humidity ranges from 8% to 14%.

III - Advantages and disadvantages of the Sapele wood finger joint

Advantages:

  • The Sapele wood has a specific brown color with clear veins and a smooth surface, making it suitable for modern interior spaces.
  • It is lightweight, but after the careful process of soaking and drying, the Sapele finger joint becomes very hard and has high heat resistance, waterproofing, and anti-mold properties. It is also resistant to termite invasion.
  • The Sapele wood has a natural scent, creating a pleasant and comfortable feeling during use.
  • The Sapele wood is reasonably priced, making it affordable for the majority of Vietnamese people when joined.

Disadvantages:

  • Only side A has no knots, especially live knots, but it comes at a higher price. Side B and side C still have knots and black seams that significantly impact the wood's aesthetics.
  • The availability and diversity of Sapele wood sources in Vietnam are limited compared to other types of wood.
